Get Up, Get Out, Get Active
Every Step Counts 10,000 Steps

10,000 Steps program

  • How many steps do you take in a day?
  • Are you getting enough activity to stay healthy and reduce the risk of disease?

A great way to assist you in becoming more active is the 10,000 steps program. By simply ‘moving more’ and striving towards 10,000 steps per day, you can improve your health and wellbeing.

Count your steps - Borrow a pedometer!

With the help of a pedometer (a handy gadget that counts your steps for you), its fun to move more. You can use the pedometer to work out how many steps you already take and start to increase your activity level.

On the Gold Coast, you can borrow Pedometer Packs from all Gold Coast City Council and Beaudesert Shire Council Libraries. Each Library Pedometer Pack includes a pedometer to help you count your steps and a Step Log Book full of handy physical activity tips. Click here and then type in “Pedometer Pack” to check out availability in your local Gold Coast library.

10,000 steps a day doesn’t have to be hard work – check out our Top Tips to get active. And remember that by doing vigorous activity, you can double the amount of steps recorded by the pedometer to help you reach your target quicker. Check out the 10,000 Steps website (external link) for heaps of information and logbooks to help you keep track of your progress.

If you're not very active right now, that's OK. You can start out slowly and gradually increase your activity over time. Even small increases in your daily activities can have a big impact on your health.
