Get Up, Get Out, Get Active
Every Step Counts 10,000 Steps

Top tips to get active!

Here are some tips to help you find the time and make physical activity fun and more enjoyable:

  • Walk whenever you can - get off the bus early, take the stairs at work or on appointments, park the car further away or leave it at home.

  • Use the Activities & Events Calendar to find fun physical activity events happening near you.

  • Do the activities you are doing now, more often or with more effort.

  • Reduce inactivity for long periods, like watching TV or using the computer.

  • Get up from the lounge or your office chair and stretch and bend for a few minutes every hour.

  • Start slowly, progress gradually - start with a 10 minute walk and gradually increase the time.

  • Be active to music. (Dance like no-one is watching!)

  • Find out about walking and cycling paths nearby and use them.

  • Try a physical activity class – you don’t have to make a long term commitment. Find one here.

  • Don’t forget to balance physical activity with healthy eating to get the best results.

  • Borrow a pedometer pack from your local library and count your steps. Aim for 10,000 Steps a day.
