Top tips to get active
- Build an obstacle course in the house or backyard. Make it safe for everyone.
- Move to the music. Dance, dance, dance.
- Splish, splash! Head to the local pool or beach and get active underwater. Always swim with a buddy/parent and stay between the flags.
- Skate, rollerblade, bike or scoot.
- Organise a soccer, cricket or basketball game with your friends in a park near you.
- Walk, ride or skate at least part of the way to school.
- Play games after school and at lunchtime when at school (after eating a healthy lunch of course).
- Try a new sport – join a team.
- Find an activity to do near you or look on our children's fitness page for heaps of fun ways to be active. Try small sports, FIT kids, yoga, martial arts or foxy boxing. Try them all!
- Design your own game online and then go and play it! Check out more fun games and puzzles in the Kids Playground.
- Try some new games. Check out these traditional indigenous games.
Set up a "get active" club at school.
Here is a checklist to get you started:
- Choose what type of activities you'd like to do.
- Check out what equipment is available and write down what you'll need.
- Find out where you could do the activities (inside, on the oval).
- Talk with a teacher about your ideas (find out if supervision is required, the best time for the club, who the club is for and the maximum number of members you could include).
Eating healthy will make sure you have the energy, strength and good health to try new active challenges. If you combine healthy eating and physical activity, it will also help you to stay a healthy weight.
