Q: What is the Choose Your Own Physical Activity Adventure?
A: It is a new and exciting Gold Coast event held during Get Active Gold Coast Month (July). This Adventure is designed to challenge people on the Gold Coast to engage in physical activity for the month of July.
 
Q: How do I sign up for the Adventure?
A: You need to be a member of the Get Active Gold Coast website to access the Adventure. Simply go to www.getactivegoldcoast.com.au and click "competitions". Next, scroll down till you see Choose Your Own Physical Activity Adventure and click "Enter online". You will be prompted to enter your Get Active Gold Coast username and password. If you are not yet a member click "Sign Up". Once signed up you will have access to the Adventure!
 
Q: Can I participate as a team?
A: Yes, you can choose to participate as an individual, team, school or workplace.
 
Q: Can I participate as an individual and participate in a team at the same time?
A: Yes, all of the physical activity that you do can contribute distance to your individual chosen destination as well as your teams chosen destination.
 
Q: What destinations can I choose to travel to?
A: There are a variety of destinations to choose from. Enter the Adventure to find the list of destinations available.
 
Q: What ages are able to participate in this Adventure?
A: This Adventure is for all ages! Go at your own pace and choose activities which are suited to you.
 
Q: Can I only participate in one activity?
A: No, you can participate in as many different physical activities that you want to. For example you could run, cycle, skip and yoga to your chosen destination. You can use the physical activity conversion table to help you convert your activities into km distances.
 
Q: Do I have to use the conversion table to measure my physical activity distances?
A: No, you are welcome to measure your own distances. The conversion table was made for people who wish to convert activities (such as yoga) into a km distance.
 
Q: How do I use the conversion table?
A: Find the activity you have just completed from the list. The km value next to the activity is the estimated distance per 10 minutes of activity. For example, per 10 minutes of surfing it is estimated that you will travel 1 km. If you went surfing for 30 minutes you will have travelled an equivilant of 3 km.
 
Q: Where can I download my logsheet?
A: Download your logsheet by clicking on your chosen destination. You can choose to save or print the logsheet. You need to sign up for the Adventure to access the destinations and logsheets.
 
Q: When does this Adventure need to be completed by?
A: You have from the 1st July 2011 until Midnight the 31st of July to complete your own physical activity adventure.
 
Q: It is now past the 1st July 2011, is it too late to sign up and participate?
A: No, you can start anytime during the month of July.
 
Q: What happens when I have reached my destination?
A: Congratulations! Once you have reached your destination you need to return to the Choose Your Own Physical Activity Adventure homepage and click 'I've completed the challenge". You will then be sent a post card from your destination!
 
Q: It is no longer Gold Coast Physical Activity Month but I would like to complete this Adventure again...
A: All the resources required to complete the challenge will continue to be available for download after Gold Coast Physical Activity Month. Enjoy your next adventure!
 
How much activity should I do?
  • Power walking for 30 minutes or moderately paced swimming for 35 minutes, on 3 days per week, will take you to Rathdowney at 100km!
  • Register with a friend to cycle for 30 minutes and take 2 yoga classes per week to go to Esk at 156km!
  • A family of 5 can make it to Goondiwindi by walking for 35 minutes each week day!
