Kids

Kids love being active. Making physical activity a part of their daily routine is not only fun, it is important for healthy growth and development. Encouraging kids to get up, get out...get active when they are young, helps develop a lifelong love for activity. An active lifestyle means a healthier, happier family!

Did you know?
  • Physical activity is easy and fun!
  • Physical activity is a great way to spend time with friends - or make new ones!
  • Physical activity doesn't have to be hard.  Just move a little more, a little more often!
  • You can be active almost anywhere; at home, at school, on your street or on your way!
  • You can join a local team or club to get active!
  • Just 1 hour of physical activity every day will:
    • help your body grow
    • keep your body healthy
    • help prevent you from getting hurt when you play sport
    • help you lead a longer, happier life.
How much activity?
A mix of moderate and vigorous activities for at least 60 minutes (and up to several hours) a day is recommended. (Moderate activities include a brisk walk, a bike ride or any sort of active play. Vigorous activities will make kids "huff and puff" and include organised sports such as football and netball, as well as activities such as ballet, running and swimming laps.)

Kids need the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that are fun and suit their interests, skills and abilities. Variety offers children a range of health benefits, experiences and challenges.

Children shouldn't spend more than two hours a day using electronic media for entertainment (e.g. computer games, TV, internet), particularly during daylight hours. More information is available at Recommendations for 5-12 year olds (Brochure)
