Seniors | Physical Activity At Home

You don’t have to go to a gym to be physically active – there are plenty of activities that can be done right from the comfort of your own home!

 Exercises to try at home!
Try some of the physical activities from the Ageing with vitality: your everyday guide to healthy active living! This guide suggests everyday activities and exercises for strength, balance, flexibility and endurance that you can do at home. It also includes tips, simple step-by-step instructions and photographs. There is also a workbook which will help you to plan and progress as you find various ways to increase your levels of physical activity.

Strength
Even very small changes in muscle strength can make a real difference in function, especially in people who have already lost a lot of muscle. An increase in muscle that you can’t even see can make it easier to do everyday things like get up from a chair, climb stairs, carry shopping bags, open jars and even play with your grandchildren.

Balance exercises will help you prevent falls and avoid the disability that may result from falling.

Working on your flexibility will give you more freedom of movement for your physical activities and for everyday activities such as getting dressed and reaching objects on a shelf. Stretching exercises can improve your flexibility but will not improve your endurance or strength, so try combining flexibility activities with some strength and endurance activities.
