There are many ways to get active in your work, school, community, or home. Activity can be broken into snack-size pieces (10 minute intervals) - look at the suggested Snacktivities for inspiration to be active at your work, school or home.

Work
Finding ways to include physical activity in the workday is the most practical way for many adults to become more active. Most adults spend half their waking hours at work and for a large number of people these hours can be sedentary.  A number of Gold Coast Workplaces are supporting their staff to be active and healthy.  This can be as easy as providing a bike rack or 10,000 step challenge to providing an on-site gym or creating a workplace communal garden to provide fresh salad for lunch.  For more ides visit the links.

School
Recommendations suggest children should take part in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity everyday. With the majority of a child's day being spent at school, schools and after hours school are settings which play an important role in shaping a child's attitudes and activity behaviours. Schools can use a number of approaches to support and encourage physical activity for students and their local community. A local school committed to developing healthy students is the Labrador State School via their Bodies Brains and Confidence program.

Community
There are many opportunities to be active in our community. Free or low cost activities are offered through Gold Coast City Council’s Active and Healthy Program and the Gold Coast has excellent National Parks and a large number of sporting clubs you can join. GET ACTIVE Gold Coast supports you to get active as many ways as you can, as often as you can! Search the site to find the right activity, club or organisation for you!

The influence of those we live with can impact on our physical activity levels and the development of lifelong habits. Modelling of active behaviour by parents or caregivers and the availability of support, encouragement, transport and financial resources can all impact on the family's level of involvement in physical activity.

To be healthy and active, mums, dads and kids all need physical activity every day. Your continuing health and wellbeing depends on it and so does the growth and development of your children.

An active lifestyle means a healthier, happier family.
