Getting Active, Staying Active!

Our 5 steps to getting active and staying active:

Step 1:  Acknowledge that being active is good for you (and here is the secret - activity can be heaps of fun!)

Step 2: Use the Get Active Gold Coast Activity Finder to find your favourite activities, and don't be shy, try some new activities.

Step 3: Create your very own physical activity calendar and stick it to your fridge or wall as a reminder.

Step 4: Be creative, make everyday an activity day - try a couple of snacktivities and share them with your friends.

Step 5: Tell us Your Story and help inspire others to lead an active and healthy lifestyle!

Kids love being active. Making physical activity a part of their daily routine is not only fun, it is important for healthy growth and development.
Take advantage of our Gold Coast lifestyle and celebrate fun in the sun by getting up, out and active.

Be active every day! Our Gold Coast survey revealed that only half the GC adult population are active enough to receive a health benefit.
We may not be able to do all the things we did when we were young, but ageing does not mean losing fitness, muscle strength and energy.  The reality is you have to ‘use it or lose it’.

The Active Travel program encourages all Gold Coast residents and visitors to 'enjoy the way they move' and make Active Travel choices as part of their everyday lives!

Get active when you are at school, work, home or in your local community setting.

There are several ways to help you keep on track with your goal of being more active. Try these useful tips:

Get into a routine and Use reminders

  • plan your activity, both the time and place
  • create your own GAGC activity calendar - print it and place it on the fridge, front door, car seat and diary. Use a highlighter to show the activities dates you are active
  • place your walking shoes near the door or in the car
  • sign up to GAGC Twitter to get activity reminders.

Be social

  • involve a friend, colleague, neighbour or relative in your activity routine – this will help keep you both motivated and committed.

Use a diary

  • write down your activity times and how you feel after doing something so you can refer back to it when you feel less motivated.

Choose a role model

  • maybe someone close to you is regularly active and fit. Talk to them and use them as a role model to keep yourself going.

Vary your activity

  • change the time or the place you normally do your activity to help keep it interesting.
  • change the type of activity you do.
