Staying safe

Before you start to exercise

See your doctor for a medical check-up before embarking on any new fitness program, particularly if you are obese, haven't exercised in a long time or suffer from a chronic medical condition.

Do a few stretches to warm up and remember it is also important to cool down when you finish.

Sun safety

Protect your skin from the sun, especially babies and young children.  Remember to slip, slop, slap and wrap (external link).

Drink water

It is important to drink water every day.  Be sure to drink water before, during and after exercise especially in hot weather.

Personal safety

Be aware and confident of your surroundings.   The Queensland Police Service has further information on personal safety strategies (external link).

Remember

Stop exercising if you experience pain, discomfort, nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain, irregular heart beat, shortness of breath, or clammy hands. Seek medical or professional advice.
